Job Summary

ABOUT THE ROLE

HealthOPM is recruiting on behalf of a respected Toronto-based organization for the Child and Youth Worker Integrated Day Treatment position. This role is based within a live-in treatment home providing therapeutic classroom-based support to youth with behavioural and mental health challenges. You will help address issues as they arise model appropriate behaviour and teach emotional regulation skills to prepare youth for reintegration into mainstream school community programs or employment pathways. Working alongside the classroom teacher you will support youth engagement in both academic and therapeutic components of the program while contributing to a safe structured and trauma-informed environment.

Salary range:
  • $58001 to $67543 per annum

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop client (youth) treatment plans to ensure a consistent program for clients which enables clients to reach their desired outcome.
  • Observe client in classroom setting during the assessment period provide observations and treatment recommendations to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Document meeting discussions and other communications related to the client to inform other service providers within the agency and to meet accreditation standards outlined by the Canadian Centre of Accreditation. (Ministry Health) and legislative requirements.
  • Complete and file Incident Report and/or support program Manager to complete Serious Occurrence forms when serious or major events occur (i.e. physical contact injury death) within prescribe timelines and Ministry Standards.
  • Complete all tasks related to ensuring the classroom environment operates effectively and allows client to attain their individual goals.
  • Maintain professional standards of practice in accordance with Strides policies and procedures Canadian Centre for Accreditation (CCA) standards and relevant legislation.
  • Provide training and supervision to college students (usually 3rd year) in the Child and Youth care program to allow them to attain field training in the classroom environment and gain hands on experience to allow them to enter the workforce.
THE MUST HAVES

The following education professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:

  • College diploma in Child and Youth work (CYW) or Child and Youth Care (CYC).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management principles and crisis management skills.
  • Knowledge and certification in CPI and CPR / First Aid.
  • Knowledge in mental health group facilitation.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care.
THE NICE TO HAVES

While not required preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience working in a school environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Child and Youth Family Service Act would be considered an asset
  • Experience with or training in childhood sexual exploitation would be an asset.
  • Fluency in another language(s) including sign language.
  • A valid drivers license with access to a vehicle would be an asset.
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion diversity equity and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.
