Summary:
The Youth Support Worker is responsible for delivering and developing youth work sessions as part of the Young Tower Hamlets universal safe spaces offer. This role aims to provide young people aged 1119 (up to 25 for those with SEND) with accessible safe environments and positive educational activities. The post-holder works to reduce violence vulnerability and exploitation by establishing voluntary relationships with young people and providing access to additional support from skilled professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain positive voluntary relationships with young people through one-to-one conversations and group activities.
- Help young people understand risk and empower them to take positive actions that promote their safety and wellbeing.
- Participate in the planning delivery and evaluation of safe spaces sessions including center-based activities off-site trips and residential experiences.
- Support young people to participate in the design and delivery of services to ensure their voices and experiences are heard.
- Manage building duties including opening and closing facilities for sessions and performing relevant health and safety tasks.
- Maintain timely and quality records on management information systems regarding youth work accidents and incidents.
Qualifications:
- A recognized Level 2 Youth Work Qualification
- A willingness to work toward achieving the Level 2 qualification during the probationary period is essential if not already held.
Essentials:
- An understanding of the factors currently affecting young people within the Tower Hamlets area.
- Proven experience in effectively engaging young people individually or in groups to develop rapport and maintain relationships
- Experience treating young peoples concerns with respect while maintaining professional boundaries regarding confidentiality and safeguarding.
- A strong understanding of anti-discriminatory practice and the ability to apply these principles when working with diverse communities
