What a College Intern - Mechanical Design Engineering does at HP:

• Design mechanical components and systems using CAD tools including case parts and mechanisms.
• Perform critical design analyses such as Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Design for Assembly (DFA) and tolerance stack-up studies.
• Utilize simulation software to conduct dynamic analyses and explore various configurations to optimize mechanical performance and efficiency.
• Develop and refine prototypes based on simulation results and conceptual designs applying creative and innovative approaches.
• Collaborate with engineers to understand detailed project requirements mechanical specifications and performance objectives.
• Conduct rigorous testing and evaluation of prototypes to ensure stability reliability and compliance with design standards.

Individuals who do well in this role at HP usually possess:

• Currently pursuing a Degree in Mechatronics/Mechanical.
• Able to commit to 5-6 months full-time internship starting in May 2026.
• Good knowledge of mechanical design and basic understanding of electrical sensors and programming.
• Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for self-directed learning proactively seeking out new knowledge and skills to enhance project outcomes.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks AutoCAD CREO Elements/Direct) for creating and modifying mechanical designs.
• Good analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
