SDU Microelectronics part of institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a 3-year PhD position within Wearable Design and Mutli-Modal Monitoring of Brain Disorders. The position is open from May and the specific start date will be agreed with the successful candidates.
Research area and project description
Current seizure detection relies heavily on EEG but we believe we can do better. NeuroEar aims to use multimodal monitoring to significantly enhance seizure detection and prediction accuracy.
This PhD project focuses on designing and testing high-quality electronics (both discrete and integrated) and participate in clinical studies at the Danish Epilepsy Centre (Filadelfia) to validate the device on patients. You will also spend 3 months at Georgia Tech/Emory University (USA) working on machine learning and data benchmarking.

The selected PhD student will be responsible for the full development of the multimodal neuromonitoring system. Tasks will include:

Conditions of enrollment/employment
Appointment as a PhD fellow is a 3-year salaried position and the monthly gross salary incl. pension is 36.608 DKK. If you have relevant postgraduate experience you may be placed on a higher salary step.
The preferred start date is from May 1 2026.
