Job Summary

Introduction

The MarylandDepartment of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) is seeking a motivated anddetail-oriented professional to join our team as an Assessments OfficeManager Assistant B. This position plays a critical role insupporting daily office operations within a local Assessment Office providingadministrative guidance coordinating workflow and ensuring exceptionalcustomer service to Maryland residents businesses and internal stakeholders.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsible for assisting the Assessments Office Manager in all clerical operations within the County Assessment Office.

  • Interacts with the general public both in person and by phone to respond to technical issues related to the assessment process property values and/or general office procedures.
  • Delegates duties to subordinate employees and monitors workflow to insure the timely and accurate completion of office assignments.
  • Trains and instructs subordinate staff on the job duties and office procedures to follow to insure compliance with departmental procedures and state regulations.
  • Evaluates subordinate employees to assess work quality by regularly monitoring work performance.
  • Assists the Supervisor of Assessments in the development and implementation of clerical office policy and procedures to improve clerical office operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of clerical or technical experience in processing property assessment records and forms.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience performing general clerical duties on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substituteU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in financial administration and program classification orfinancial administration and program specialty codes in theaccounting and budget field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Knowledge of policies and practices used in a local assessments office.
  • Clerical or technical experience in processing property assessments records and forms.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills; Excellent organizational/time management skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint) and Google platforms.

Mustbe willing to work in Howard County Assessments Office.
