Job Summary

  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade.
  • Completion of a certificate or diploma program from an approved post-secondary school in the area of Human Resources Labour Relations or Business Administration.
  • A minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in the area of Human Resources Labour Relations Business Administration.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of diversified word and information processing experience.
  • Previous experience in a unionized setting would be an asset.
  • Computer proficiency and experience using Human Resources Information Systems.
  • Strong information and records management skills.
  • Experience working with highly confidential documents and information.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable judgement and tact when responding to sensitive requests.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and a high level of flexibility is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Successfully managing multiple priorities and deadlines while offering prompt service to clients and other HR staff is required.
  • Working knowledge of current Employment Standards and HR best practices would be an asset.

    Hours of Work:

33.75 hours per week Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range:

82M Salary Grade: 007 $30.315 - $38.012 (Hourly) $2046.30 - $2565.80 (Bi-Weekly) $53407.45- $66967.64 (Annually).

The Edmonton Police Service has an opportunity for a highly motivated team player with strong administrative support skills and a keen interest in labour relations. Working in a dynamic environment with experienced labour relations practitioners the Human Resources Assistant will provide technical and administrative support to a team of Human Resources Advisors. The successful candidates responsibilities will include:

  • Receive review and track all grievances investigations disciplinary correspondence
  • Receive review and refer incoming inquiries and requests including FOIP requests investigations requests for information briefings and other general inquiries to Labour Relations
  • Provide confidential administrative support and facilitate effective daily operations of the HR Support and Labour Relations Branch
  • Provide administrative support to the Human Resources team
  • Attend a variety of meetings to record notes track and ensure resolution of sensitive labour relations action items
  • Prepares employee correspondence for a variety of requests including leaves of absence and extra employment
  • Coordinates step increases for unionized employees and annual management/professional merit increases
  • Responsible for electronic and paper filing for the HRS and LR Branch
  • Performing other related duties as required
  • Support in a variety of Labour Relations initiatives
