Job Description
UW Facilities manages the Universitys buildings infrastructure and land with more than 1100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management Real Estate Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery Maintenance & Construction Campus Energy Utilities & Operations Building Services Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups as well as the separate Emergency Management team are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Motor Equipment Service Attendant to join our team consisting of four Mechanics one Lead Mechanic three Service Attendants one Program Coordinator and one Assistant Manager that support the maintenance and management of approximately 703 University of Washington vehicles including light and medium vehicles heavy duty trucks and buses.
This position supports the Universitys transportation programs by preparing cleaning repairing operating and maintaining Fleet Services vehicles and Health Science Express buses for use by the University community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
The primary duties include fueling washing and performing general safety inspections on rental vehicles.
The secondary duties will include moving vehicles to and from Vendors and other tasks as assigned by the Lead.
Be responsive to customer demands and needs for vehicles as requested by Fleet Services Staff.
Assist customers in fueling washing vehicles and inflating tires.
Input vehicle number and mileage into the Petrovend automated system to activate fuel pumps and dispense fuel.
Remove debris and trash from vehicles wipe and wash interior surfaces sweep vacuum disinfect and deodorize as needed.
Front office coverage including answering phone calls emails setting up rental accounts and general daily customer service activities.
Retrieve log and store lost and found items according to departmental procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by Shop Supervisor and Manager.
Maintenance
Perform minor mechanical repairs including change oil and filter and lube chassis.
Perform minor tune up functions: check fluid levels; replace wipers lights mirrors; check tire pressure repair and replace tires.
Check for body damage and general appearance.
Conduct routine inspections for emergency and safety equipment.
Monitor and install appropriate seasonal equipment in vehicles.
Transfer vehicles to vendors for service and repair; assist mechanics with repairs and service calls.
Perform minor maintenance of car wash and car wash equipment.
Clean driveways and shop areas.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
One year of work experience in a garage or service station or equivalent experience.
Possession of a valid Washington State drivers license.
CDL permit with air brake and passenger endorsement by the end of the second month of employee probationary period and class B CDL license with airbrake and passenger endorsement by the end of the fifth month of the employee probationary period.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired
One year of front-line customer service experience.
One-year general computer proficiency/experience with Microsoft office products (Access Excel Word and Outlook) for data entry and analysis.
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
Conditions of employment
Approved safety shoes must be worn on the job.
Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
