Why Your Role Matters:
Our Senior Payroll Officers sit within the People Operations team to deliver best practice payroll processing; ensuring efficiency compliance accuracy and sustainable pay confidence aligned with pay agreements and strategies at UNSW. Bringing substantial knowledge across payroll practices youll work as a subject matter expert to offer guidance on complex payroll matters resolve complex queries and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Your typical day would be:

  • Accurate and timely processing of end-to-end payroll activities including complex calculation relating to allowances leave entitlement parental leave and terminations.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service to a range of stakeholders responding to payroll enquiries clearly explaining outcomes and resolving issues effectively
  • Managing the employee lifecycle from hiring to terminations ensuring employee information and payroll changes are actioned accurately compliantly and within required timeframes.
  • Apply and interpret relevant legislation Enterprise Agreements and internal policies accurately to ensure sustainable pay confidence.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of payroll data and resolving discrepancies to ensure compliant and reliable pay outcomes.
  • Managing and resolving complex enquiries or issues including employee matters system behaviour payment discrepancies timelines for delivery escalating matters where required ensuring alignment with sustainable pay confidence.
  • Support continuous improvement by contributing to enhancements to payroll systems processes and policies including participation in testing and implementation activities.
  • Providing guidance and subject matter expertise to the payroll team and Payroll Team Leader by strengthening capability promoting consistent application of payroll practices and contributing to governance compliance and operational objectives.

Who you are:
Were looking for a senior payroll professional with experience delivering end-to-end payroll processing in a complex high-volume environment. You bring strong expertise in Australian payroll legislation Enterprise Agreements and policy interpretation and are confident managing and resolving complex payroll enquiries and compliance matters. With a customer-focused mindset you provide guidance and subject matter expertise to support team capability collaborate effectively with stakeholders and contribute to continuous improvement of payroll systems processes and governance in a large dynamic environment.
Youll hold the following skills & experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Substantial knowledge of Australian payroll legislation including terminations leave entitlements long service leave redundancies
  • Demonstrated prior experience in payroll processing in a complex and high-volume environment
  • Prior experience in Enterprise Agreement interpretation and application in payroll processing
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders including the ability to explain payroll concepts in a clear simple and pleasant manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing superior customer service to support stakeholders at different levels including the ability to resolve complex enquiries and low-level escalations
  • Proficient in Oracle payroll and HRIS products
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products
  • High attention to detail and level of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

This role reports to the Payroll Team Leader sitting within the People Services Team alongside other Officers to support payroll processing operations.
