Job Summary
Under supervision of the Planning Design and Construction Division Manager coordinates with Facilities Management Department project managers design professionals and various County departments on procurement of new furniture and scheduling of move services in an efficient and timely manner in support of new constructions renovations and departmental relocations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is in an Internship of architectural-related job classifications within the Engineering and Architectural job family. This classification is distinguished by the scope of project work educational requirements and supervisory responsibilities for a team of County movers. This classification may require a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Join our team as an intern and gain real-world experience working alongside architects engineers and industry professionals.
- In this roleyoullsupport project teams on meaningful work from developing design documents and BIM models to conducting researchassistingwith construction observation and collaborating with colleagues across multiple offices.
- Responsible for basic design criteria space plan layouts and design conceptsfurnishedby an experienced architect or engineer and under their supervision prepare clear concise readable drawings and BIM models including model setup input and red-line correction changes.
- Conducts basicmaterialsresearch and specification preparation and writing.
- Assistwith or provide on-site construction observation on simple projects.
- Works alongside and learn from professionals in parallel disciplines.
- Visits to construction sites with project leaders.
- Assistwith procurement process of POs and shopping cart for project needs
- Performs analysis of existing furniture assets as to condition and suitability for newconstructionrenovationand relocations.
- Researchesand selects furniture both case goods and systems asrequiredfor new construction and/or renovation projects.
- Coordinates delivery and assembly of furniture assets as per required timing asidentifiedby the Facilities Project Manager.
- Applies knowledge analysis and management of move services provided by contracted professional movers and in-house price proposals performs negotiations and monitors moveservices.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience:
Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited university program for Interior Design or Architecture at least Junior year
Licenses Registrations Certifications or Special Requirements:
Valid Texas Drivers License.
Preferred:
Purchasing experience.
Experienced in using REVIT or AutoCAD software.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of furniture procurement for commercial properties.
- Modern practices procedures and methods of procurement of move services.
- Policies practices procedures and terminology of assigned function.
- Federal State Local and County applicable laws rules regulations permits licenses practices standards policies and procedures.
- Computer equipment to include computer aided design and drafting word processing spreadsheets project scheduling and management and other related applications.
- Business letter writing grammar and punctuation and report preparation.
Skill in:
- Preparing floor plan drawings showing layout of furniture using REVIT or AutoCAD.
- Applying principles and practices as used in interior design or architecture.
- Problem-solving and technical decision making for developing effective solutions.
- Supervising crew providing move services.
- Both verbal and written communication.
- Setting and maintaining time intervals and timelines.
Ability to:
- Work independently.
- Supervise motivate develop and evaluate staff.
- Exercise sound judgment and make decisions.
- Use REVIT or AutoCAD software.
- Manage time well perform multiple tasks and organize diverse activities.
- Perform in a stressful environment while maintaining a professional manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees and officials architects consultants contractors representatives of outside agencies and the general public.
- Convey ideas and concepts verbally and in writing.
Work Environment & Other Information
Physical requirements include the ability to lift carry 25-50 pounds occasionally visual acuity mental effort speech and hearing hand and eye coordination manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and viewing screens for long periods. Subject to standing sitting walking climbing stairs bending stooping squatting crouching kneeling pushing pulling reaching twisting balancing and driving and repetitive motion to perform the essential functions. Occasionally may be subject to contact with noise vibration fumes foul odor dirt dust gases and poor ventilation. Requires the use of protective devices such as masks hardhats goggles hearing protection devices and gloves. May require climbing and traveling over uneven muddy rocky and high grass terrain in all types of weather.
Travis County employees play an important role in business continuity. As such employees can be assigned to business continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.
