Job Summary



Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable Subject Matter Expert (SME) Crane & Rigging to serve as the primary technical expert for crane and rigging operations lift planning safety standards training and continuous improvement. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities including mentoring rigging team members troubleshooting complex lift challenges and collaborating with Engineering Integration Quality and Safety teams to ensure successful execution of rigging operations. This position may also fill in for Leads or Supervisors during planned absences.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary expert on rigging methods critical lift execution and best practices for safe load handling.
  • Lead and perform advanced rigging operations including high-risk critical lifts multi-point setups and multi-crane coordination.
  • Support precision placement of heavy components to enable successful generator unit assembly and transport readiness.
  • Ensure proper load securement weight distribution and balance for all lift operations.
  • Communicate clearly with crane operators using proper hand signals and radio communication.
  • Operate aerial lifts while properly using fall protection equipment.
  • Assist in loading completed units onto transport trucks using approved rigging techniques.
  • Identify and report deviations unsafe conditions or execution risks before and during lift operations.
  • Act as a mentor and technical resource for the rigging team to promote skill development and cross-training.
  • Occasionally work in other areas of the plant to gain broader understanding of assembly flow and business needs.
  • Other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
Process & Quality Ownership
  • Conduct pre-lift planning including lift sequencing weight/center-of-gravity verification risk assessment and required safety briefings.
  • Troubleshoot complex rigging challenges and implement corrective actions to reduce rework and prevent incidents.
  • Ensure accurate completion of quality plans and required rigging documentation.
  • Identify and correct defects in material or workmanship and reinforce adherence to quality standards.
  • Recommend improvements to rigging processes fixtures tooling and equipment usage.
  • Assist leadership in implementing quality initiatives best practices and standardized rigging procedures.
Training & Mentorship
  • Onboard and train new and existing rigging team members on safe rigging techniques equipment use inspection protocols and job-site expectations.
  • Train team members on safety guidelines lift communication practices and process improvements.
  • Partner with the training team to help create or contribute to work instructions SOPs visual aids and rigging training materials.
  • Serve as a mentor and subject-matter resource for team members seeking skill advancement and certification development.
Safety Compliance & Workplace Standards
  • Champion PPE use fall protection compliance rigging safety practices and hazard awareness.
  • Conduct inspections of rigging gear and lifting equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards and load limits.
  • Identify and report equipment defects hazards and unsafe behaviors immediately.
  • Support emergency evacuation procedures and assist in training others on safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area aligned with 5S principles and JTS standards.
Cross-Functional Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering Integration Quality Planning and Safety teams to achieve schedule goals and ensure smooth workflows.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying waste inefficiencies or recurring rigging challenges and recommending solutions.
  • Participate in safety and quality initiatives that strengthen rigging department performance and reduce risk.

Required Knowledge/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Valid accredited Advanced Rigging Certification (required).
  • OSHA 30 Certification (required).
  • Minimum 4 years of rigging experience including experience supporting complex lifts.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and strong understanding of load handling principles.
  • Expert knowledge of job site safety standards and proper PPE usage.
  • Strong attention to detail sound judgment and ability to make safety-driven decisions under pressure.
  • Effective time management adaptability and ability to lead by example in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • This role is primarily based in a manufacturing and outdoor job site environment.
  • Mobility: Ability to stand kneel stoop or crouch for 810 hours per day.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands to handle rigging tools and components.
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs. All lifting should follow OSHA standards.
  • Weather Conditions: Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the site safely and communicate effectively.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
