Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager(s) Human Resources Services the Attendance Support Officer role operates as part of a team and is responsible for attendance monitoring and disability management support for the Board in a unionized and non-unionized environment. The role oversees the daily administration of the Short-Term Leave and Disability (STLD) provisions and the employer-required administration of Long-Term Disability (LTD) ensuring all processes align with the Boards obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) including the duty to accommodate non-discrimination and the respectful treatment of employees. The incumbent will collaborate with key stakeholders including but not limited to management principals and Human Resources Services Partners Health and Safety Officer(s) the WSIB Officer and external agencies to equitable confidential and timely support that enables employees with disabilities to safely and successfully perform their duties

The Attendance Support Officer also administers the Attendance Support Program ensuring that it is designed and implemented fairly and consistently in accordance with PPM 171 the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and all applicable legislation regulations and Board policies and procedures. Specifically the incumbent is responsible for monitoring and analyzing absence statistics generating reports scheduling and meeting with employees as required and maintaining the strict confidentiality and security of all medical information.

Qualifications / Experience

A Bachelors Degree in a health discipline such as Occupational Health Nursing Kinesiology Physiotherapy or
Occupational Therapy.

Four years related work experience preferably with experience in a unionized environment.

Certified Disability Management credential is considered an asset

Demonstrated knowledge of disability management principles and practice.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational and computer skills specifically Microsoft Office. Experience with Parklane Software is an
asset.

Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters discreetly.

Responsibilities

Disability Management and Short Term Leave and Disability Plan (STLDP):

Maintains contact with employees regarding absences and conducts periodic follow ups to ensure timely receipt of
supporting medical documentation.

Interprets medical information provided in conjunction with job specific requirements and makes decisions regarding
work suitability and accommodation.

Monitors sick leave absences to ensure that employees are being topped up if applicable and accurate adjustments are
sent to payroll (ie. days at 90%).

Communicates with the Long-Term Disability adjudicators and provides them with any required information or
documentation regarding claims.

Attendance Support Program:

Responsible to coordinate the monitoring and annual review process for the Attendance Support Program.

Facilitates and leads the Step I and 2 Attendance Support Program meetings (in some cases along with the employees
Manager) held with employees and their union representative where applicable to understand the reasons for
absenteeism and to provide employees with information to support regular attendance at work.

Runs attendance reports and looks for trends and/or discrepancies in reporting. Discusses attendance patterns and
concerns with the Senior Managers Human Resources Services and Manager Employee Relations as appropriate.
