Description of Work

We are currently recruiting for multiple Registered Nurses on all units at Central Regional Hospital (CRH).
The registered nurse position manages the delivery of nursing care through the on-going supervision teaching and evaluation of nursing personnel (as specified in the legal definition of the practice of nursing) NCBON-NCAC 6.0224i. The Professional Nurse provides psychiatric-mental health and medical nursing care (utilizing the Nursing Process) and direct supervision of other licensed and non-licensed staff on the patient care unit (during their assigned shift). Supervision includes rotating in the charge nurse role and appropriately assessing the capabilities of staff and delegating task and responsibilities. The Professional Nurse provides direct observation of patients and evaluation of nursing care given. The role functions under the direct report of a Nurse Supervisor II (Clinical Nurse Manager).

Salary Range: $58898.00 - $88348.00

Recruitment Range: $70000.00 - $88348.00

*A Sign-on bonus of$10000 for work units AAU CTU FSU and MPU or a$12000 sign-on bonus for work units CAU and GSUmay be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Ability to independently plan implement and evaluate patient care plans.

  • Knowledge of medications and the physiological effect of those medications.

  • Ability to communicate information in a concise and descriptive manner verbally written or by demonstration.

  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations.

Conditional Requirements:

  • Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR certification within 60 days.

  • Valid drivers license.

This position is Exempt from certain provisions of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Shift Premiums for 8-Hour Shifts:

  • Day: 10% weekend shift premium

  • Evening: 20% shift premium plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium

  • Night: 20% shift premium plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium

Shift Premiums for 12-Hour Shifts:

  • Day (7:00 am-7:30 pm): 10% weekend shift premium

  • Evenings/ Night (7:00 pm-7:30 am): 20% shift premium plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.


An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

About Central Regional Hospital (CRH):

CRH is a State-of-the Art psychiatric hospital located in Butner NC. Our location is ideal with four seasons mild temperatures and provides an easy commute to the N.C. mountains or beaches. Nursing unit descriptions

Adult Admissions Unit (AAU).AAU serves patients ages 18-64 presenting with multiple diagnoses including primary psychiatric as well as substance abuse and medical diagnoses.

Child & Adolescent Unit (CAU). CAU evaluates and treats children ages 5 to 17 using the philosophy that children do well if they can. Our CAU has two divisions:Childrens Services: Provide intensive inpatient treatment and emergency diagnostic and treatment services for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.Adolescent Services: Provide intensive evaluation and treatment for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 years old on an emergency and short-term basis.

Community Transition Unit (CTU). Patient population consists of adults ages 18-64 diagnosed with a severe mental illness. Patients are not normally admitted directly into CTU. Patients are transferred from Adult Admission Unit for long term treatment of their mental illness after repeated admissions.

Forensic Services Unit (FSU). Males and females 18 years and over: Provides mental health treatment and other services for individuals who are involuntary committed for psychiatric hospitalization after being found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity or found incapable to proceed.

Geriatric Services Unit (GSU). GSU serves patients 65 and older with primary psychiatric diagnoses which may include Alzheimers/Dementia who exhibit behaviors such as agitation aggression and confusion in addition to medical diagnoses.

Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU). Provide Medical Surgical care for acute illnesses chronic conditions unable to be treated by the psych unit and functions as the Emergency Response Team (CODE Blue).
