This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.


Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. This temporary position is located in 517 West Fleming Drive - Burke County with the NC School for the Deaf.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge Skills and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management Preferences:

  • Assist in the preparation of food items including salads sandwiches and desserts according to established recipes and safety standards.
  • Serve food and beverages to customers ensuring that portion sizes comply with food service guidelines.
  • Accurately operate food service equipment such as ovens grills and dishwashers.
  • Greet customers warmly and assist them in their food selections providing recommendations when necessary.
  • Address customer inquiries and complaints in a courteous manner ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Ensure that all dining and kitchen areas are kept clean and tidy throughout the service period.
  • Wash utensils plates and kitchen equipment to maintain health and safety regulations.
  • Restock supplies as needed including condiments napkins and utensils.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations including food safety practices such as handwashing and proper food storage.
  • Report any safety or cleanliness issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Work closely with kitchen staff and other cafeteria personnel to ensure smooth operations during service hours.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of food service areas before and after meal periods.

Minimum Education and Experience
