Primary Purpose:
Assists the Custodial Supervisor in all custodial staff and activities ensuring all facilities are clean safe and functional and manage the custodial budget supplies and equipment for all VISD facilities.Helpsestablishand supervise cleaning schedules inspect facilities troubleshoot maintenance and security issues and coordinate with administrators staff andvendorsthe cleanliness and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Ensures service requests aresubmittedto Maintenance for all work beyond the scope of custodial staff.
Qualification Guidelines:
Education/Certifications:
High Schooldiploma orGED
Valid Texas Drivers License
Experience:
Five years experience in custodial services within VISD or other public-school system preferred
Two years leadership experience leading teams preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
1. Strong communicationskills to work effectively with administrators staff students and vendors.
2. Strong leadership skills to lead train and mentora staffof over 100 personnel with theassistanceofCustodialSupervisor.
3. Knowledge of routine custodian practices and methods
4. Knowledge of equipment chemicals and materials used in cleaning processes
5. Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
6. Ability to manage personnel
7. Effective planning and organizational skills
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Staff and activity management: Assists the Custodial Supervisor in the planning coordination evaluation and direction of all custodial activities including assigning tasksmonitoringcompletion training staff and managing the custodial budget and finances district wide.
- Facility maintenance: Assists the Custodial Supervisor in ensuring all school facilities and grounds aremaintainedtohigh standardsof cleanliness safety and functionality. This includes performing or supervising routine and emergency cleaning and maintenance.
- Operations andlogistics: Assists the Custodial Supervisor in the tracking of inventory for cleaning supplies and equipment ensuring equipment ismaintained and follows directed cleaning schedules for all areas like classrooms restrooms and gyms.
- Safety and security: Respond to emergency calls for custodialassistanceandreportssecurity and maintenance concerns to theappropriate personnel.
- Reporting: Conducts regular inspections under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor and generates reports on cleanliness equipment performance and overall housekeeping.
- In the absence of the Custodial Supervisor assumes the role of the Custodial Supervisor.
Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:
Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer stripper wet and dry vacuum cleaner electric drill hand toolsshampooer and light truck or van
Posture/Motion/Lifting: Frequent walking standing climbing and heavy lifting and carrying
Environment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders; exposure tohot and cold temperatures dust toxicchemicalsand materials. Frequent district wide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions;maintainemotional control under stress;communicate effectively and professionally at all times.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Records Reports and Correspondence
- Prepare correspondence memorandums administrative forms and related documents for the supervisor.
- Compilemaintain and file all reports records and other documents asrequired.
- Set up andmaintainsecure convenience files on custodian department employeesin accordance withstate federal and district requirements.
- Receive and audit time sheets for all custodian department employees.
- Ensure all training is completed in a timely mannerofall custodial staff.
- Maintain inventory of all custodial equipment (over $1 million).
Phones
- Answer incoming calls take messages and route them toappropriate staff. Handle questions and requests that fall withinlevelof responsibility.
- Cover campus shortage when custodians call in whichconsistof calling in custodians to cover orcoveringthe position yourself.
Accounting
- Perform routine bookkeeping tasks andmaintaindepartment budget records inan accuratemanner.
- Order supplies fordepartmentandassistwith managing the distribution to various campuses and departments.
- Compile and report time records including leave requests and reports and prepare payrollondepartment employees.
Other
- Welcome all visitors and handle their requests or refer them toappropriate personnel. Maintain effective rapport withgeneralpublic and handle any problems or concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Assistsupervisor with applicationsscreeningand checking references.
- Maintain calendar of department activities staff schedules staff availability and make appointments asrequired. Make meeting arrangements including arranging and setting up facilities and equipment and preparing materials.
