Description of Work
The Division of Parks and Recreation is looking for a proficient Grants Specialist to join the State Trails Team. This position will be responsible for managing grants and funding relating to the Complete the Trails Program which helps complete the state trails in North Carolina. The position involves checking projects for grant compliance through site visits which may require some knowledge of trail planning and/or sustainable trail design; as well as knowledge in preparing grant contracts amendments financial forms online applications and reports to the Division and/or Department.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Demonstrated experience of grants budgeting and/or funds management.
Demonstrated experience of grant tracking and/or compliance.
Demonstrated experience creating easy to read and understand reports and/or graphic presentation materials.
Position/Physical Requirements:
Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:30pm; some weekend and holiday work may be required.
Some weeks may involve some longer workdays and could occasionally require staying out of town overnight or for multiple nights.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license within90 daysof employment.
This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCRs Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in sociology psychology political science business administration public administration or related field from an appropriately accredited institution AND three years of experience related to the specific program assignment;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.

Sign On Bonus Eligibility
To be eligible for a sign-on bonus the candidate must not have worked as a probationary permanent or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government including without limitation the judicial system state executive branch agencies and the university system subject to the State Human Resources Act. Employee eligible for a sign-on must work at least 20 hours per week.
