Description of Work
This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution. It provides direct support and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $37782.00- $66120.00
Responsibilities may include management of multiple locations usually a medium custody facility which is managed within the scope of the larger institution. Work in this class involves managing the total operation of an institutional housing unit within a correctional facility which may include controlled or restrictive housing. Employees supervise staff determines & evaluates program designs necessary to meet the needs of the offender population and coordinate the programs and services with program and custody staff. Employees are responsible for the programmatic and operational orientation of offenders which includes: education mental health administrative and disciplinary segregation and work assignments. Reviews work of staff through incident and use of force reports grievance investigations classification actions daily activity reports and the case management system. Establishes daily and weekly work schedules of staff to ensure coverage. Employees may chair the Facility Classification Committee and have the final approving authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees. Employees supervise a Correctional Housing Unit Manager I and reports to an Associate Warden. Work is performed in accordance with departmental regulations and established procedures.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
Knowledge of facility operations
Knowledge of Prisons policy and procedures
Documented report writing skills
Documented supportive counseling skills
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Management Preferences: The Prisons Eastern Region prefers candidates with no less than 5 years of corrections work experience and 2 years at a supervisory level.
