The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties: The Legislative Affairs Intern will work with and support members of the Legislative Affairs Team. There will be opportunities to learn about a wide range of topics related to the legislative process during the 2026 Short Session of the General Assembly
Major Task to be Performed: Track bills and committee activity during session draft summaries and status updates conduct research support coordination of legislative teams and key stakeholders.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated:
First-hand and more in-depth knowledge about the NC legislative process and
portfolio of documents (event briefs research memos bill summaries) that highlight the interns wide range of skillsincluding research communication and writing.
Academic Majors Desired: Political Science Economics Global Affairs History Public Policy or related field.
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
Excellent writing and communication skills interest and knowledge of state government attention to detail and ability to work independently.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
