This position is responsible for providing appropriate direction encouragement and support to the children and their parents in addition to being flexible resourceful sensitive and respectful of individual needs. As well the objective is to enhance the childrens and parents participation in the program and their interaction with people from other cultures to facilitate their linguistic social and cultural development. The CNC worker must be in full compliance with the Childminding Advisory Support (CMAS)
What You Will Do- MeetCNC requirements of using a child-centred approach in providing care for newcomer children by planning implementing and evaluating age-appropriate programs for children of learners to enhance their social physical and emotional development.
- Follow all requirements and practices per CMAS and organizational policies.
- Recognize and problem-solve any issues that arise.
- Ensure daily safety health and hygiene of the children at the CNC space. Inspect CNC space for safety issues and complete a space safety checklist. Ensure the orderly arrangement appearance decor and learning environment of the CNC space.
- Provide parent orientation as well as staff orientation per CNC program. Communicate with parents and to Manager for any issues related to the children.
- Report any signs of physical sexual and / or emotional abuse of any children in care to the Program Manager.
- Work collaboratively with other CNC.
- Assist the work of volunteers and placement students for successful program use of volunteers and placement students.
- Participate in regular supervisory sessions with the Program Manager.
- Upgrade training and education as directed by WoodGreen to fulfill the responsibilities of the job.
- Ensure the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
- Represent the unit on internal staff committees as directed by the Unit Director.
What You Bring to the Team- Completion of two-year ECE diploma from recognized Community College. Registration in and valid current membership in good standing with ECE College; proof of yearly membership must be submitted.
- 2 years experience working in childcare field.
What Will Set You Apart- Current first aid and CPR certification
- Professional Certification the candidate must be in good standing with relevant professional recognition bodies.
- Current health assessment including immunization and proof of tuberculosis status.
- Current criminal reference check.
- Administrative skills and leadership skills
- Ability to resolve issues and concerns of newcomer children.
- Ability to interact with professionals in other fields.
- An understanding of settlement issues and the distinctive needs of newcomer children and families.
- An understanding of child-centred programming.
- Knowledge of research and practices specific to young children including special initiatives relevant to immigrants and refugees.
- Ability to implement programming and make changes that are beneficial to young newcomers.
- Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids (including saliva urine feces and blood) and potentially infectious diseases.
- Ability to carry/lift children and carry/lift/move moderately heavy items.
- Ability to use professional judgment and problem-solve daily within program guidelines.
