Description
The Senior Center Operator 1 is under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Projects the absence of the Senior Center Operator 1 the Senior Center Operator 1 is responsible for planning and implementing programs and/or activities in the active adult center.
In addition the employee is responsible to ensure that the active adult center functions in a manner that promotes the well-being of each participant and the centers programming is consistent with the policy of the Area Agency on Aging and the other appropriate state and local agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Food Service:
The responsibilities of this position include:
Responsible for maintaining the inventory of the nutrition supplies and all of the nutrition records for the center
Overseeing the nutrition component of the active adult center program including but not limited to applicable health andsanitation regulations
Daily monitoring of the quality of bulk foods which include checking the temperature and portion sizes
Preheat ng the steam serving counter preparing the hot and cold beverages setting up the serving counter with thefood trays d15hes and utensils
Coordinating the distribution of the food items with the assistance of the volunteers
Process any part c1pant s request for a therapeutic diet
Food Sanitation:
Sanitizing the dining serving and kitchen areas
Responsible for coordinating the washing of the pots and pans and other preparatory utensils
Other duties will include coordinating the cleaning of the refrigerators food carts coffee pots and any other equipmentwith the assistance of volunteers
Programs:
Responsible for the planning and implementing of various programs for the active adult center
Oversee the counting and depositing of the nutrition contributions
Encourage the volunteers to participate within the center
Maintain a record of attendance and the volunteer hours for the center
Schedule the transportation for the center
Encourage program clients to participate in the recreational and instructional activities in the center
Attend the monthly nutrition meetings and various trainings
The individual acts as agency representative in all center related programs involving consumers including responding to questions for information via email in person or over the telephone and making referrals to consumers to appropriatehuman service agencies to obtain benefits and services to which they are eligible to receive
Performs other duties as required

Ability to communicate effectively orally
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
Ability to perform basic arithmetical operations; addition subtraction multiplication division
Ability to organize and lead the activities of people individually and in groups
Ability to record information on standardized forms either manually or through the use of computer software programs. This includes the names and addresses of the consumers the total number of consumers in attendance receipts expenditures and related data of funds
Ability to establish effective working relationships with the consumers co-workers and personnel from various public and private agencies.
