The Opportunity
Council is seeking casual Library Assistants to support the day-to-day operation of our libraries at Bellingen Dorrigo and Urunga.
This is a customer-focused role providing welcoming engaging and informative service to library patrons in a busy public environment. Duties include assisting with loans returns memberships and enquiries; shelving and maintaining collections; supporting basic reader and reference services; and helping to ensure the library remains a safe inclusive and well-presented community space.
These are true casual positions with shifts offered on a variable basis in line with operational requirements which may include Saturday mornings and periods of higher demand.
You will have experience in a customer-facing role with experience in a public library or similar environment desirable but not essential. You will hold a current Working with Children Check and NSW Class C Driver Licence and be confident using digital systems. Experience with library management systems (such as Spydus) along with an interest in books reading trends and library services will be highly regarded.
To succeed in this role you will genuinely enjoy working with people and feel comfortable in a public-facing environment. You will be approachable reliable organised and able to switch between tasks throughout a shift including regular shelving tidying and service desk duties. An interest in reader advisory confidence assisting patrons of all ages and backgrounds (including with basic technology and digital resources) and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.
