This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.


Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. This temporary position is located in 932 Old Highway 70 - Buncombe County with the Department of Health and Human Services.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $100.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge Skills and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management Preferences:

  • Through knowledge of the theory principles and practices of general preventive medicine and of the techniques involved.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual developmental delays an aged population neuro-cognitive diseases persons with acquired traumatic brain injury are preferred.
  • Ability to assess and interpret laboratory results clinical data and information relative to the patients condition.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel patients and their families and the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical coverage/services (On-Call) as needed i.e. weekends holidays vacations/leaves in the absence of FT physicians.
  • Responsible for carrying a phone responding to calls and reporting to the facility if necessary.
  • On-Call time (carrying the phone) is paid at $5.00/hr.
  • Remote Call-Back and Call-Back to the facility is considered time worked and is paid at a rate up to $100/hr.
