The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties:
The OSH Division enforces occupational safety and health laws and regulations in virtually all private and public sector businesses. This project will allow a student interested in occupational safety the opportunity to participate in hands-on workplace safety compliance inspection work and learn all aspects of the inspection and investigation process.
Major Task to be Performed:
Accompany trained experienced safety professionals on compliance inspection assignments; become familiar with general industry and construction industry safety standards; participate in training classes; observe and participate in high profile case file review meetings; assist safety professionals with hazard recognition and assessments preparing reports and investigating workplace complaints and accidents.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: Multiple products including letters and certificates hands on experience with the appointment process and an in-depth knowledge of NC government.
Academic Majors Desired: Occupational safety; safety engineering; industrial management or technology; industrial or mechanical engineering; engineering technology; construction management.
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
Strong interest in workplace/occupational safety standards politics and procedures; strong verbal and written communication skills; ideally enrolled as a rising senior in a program that focuses on occupational safety safety engineering; industrial technology construction management etc.; strong desire for public service.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
