A highly inclusive and forward-thinking primary school located in North London is seeking a dedicated resilient and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral and inclusion team. This role has been created to support pupils who present with social emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs behavioural challenges and barriers to learning that impact their ability to succeed within a mainstream classroom environment.
The successful Behaviour Mentor will work closely with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis supporting emotional regulation behaviour management and engagement with learning. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in education youth work psychology social care or mentoring who are passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children.
As a Behaviour Mentor your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Providing structured one-to-one mentoring sessions to pupils identified as requiring behavioural or emotional support
Supporting pupils with SEMH needs ADHD trauma-related behaviours anxiety and attachment difficulties
Implementing behaviour support plans positive handling strategies and individual risk assessments
Supporting pupils during lessons to promote focus engagement and appropriate behaviour
Working proactively to de-escalate challenging situations using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
Supporting pupils during unstructured times such as break lunch transitions and arrival/departure
Monitoring and recording behaviour progress emotional wellbeing and engagement levels
Liaising closely with class teachers the SENCo pastoral leads and safeguarding officers
Supporting reintegration into class following incidents exclusions or time out of class
Encouraging positive relationships resilience self-esteem and emotional literacy
The school is looking for a Behaviour Mentor who demonstrates:
Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
A calm patient and consistent approach to behaviour management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who may be disengaged or resistant
Emotional resilience and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations
A genuine passion for inclusion safeguarding and child wellbeing
Experience in any of the following areas would be highly beneficial:
SEMH schools or provisions
Youth offending services
Child mental health or psychology
Care residential or support work
Team Teach or positive handling training
