A forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in North London is seeking a resilient and committed Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral and inclusion team. The school supports a diverse student population and has a strong focus on emotional wellbeing mental health and behaviour support.
The school recognises that challenging behaviour is often a communication of unmet needs and is committed to addressing behaviour through restorative trauma-informed and supportive approaches. Behaviour Mentors play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and re-engage positively with education.
As a Behaviour Mentor you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 who present with challenging behaviour SEMH needs anxiety or disengagement from learning. You will work closely with students on a one-to-one basis as well as delivering small group interventions focused on emotional regulation resilience and positive behaviour choices.
This role requires emotional resilience consistency and the ability to build strong trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced trauma instability or difficulties in previous educational settings.
Key responsibilities of the Behaviour Mentor role include:
Providing one-to-one mentoring for students with behavioural and SEMH needs
Supporting students with ADHD anxiety trauma-related behaviours and emotional dysregulation
Delivering targeted interventions focused on behaviour engagement and wellbeing
Supporting students within lessons to promote focus and positive behaviour
De-escalating challenging situations using calm restorative strategies
Supporting students during transitions breaktimes and lunchtimes
Monitoring attendance behaviour and progress
Working closely with pastoral leads SEN staff and safeguarding teams
Supporting reintegration following exclusions or time out of lessons
Maintaining accurate records and contributing to review meetings
Building positive relationships with students and families
The school is seeking a Behaviour Mentor who:
Has experience working with adolescents or vulnerable young people
Demonstrates strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Is calm consistent and emotionally resilient
Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Is committed to safeguarding and inclusive education
Experience in SEMH schools alternative provision youth work mentoring or care settings would be highly advantageous.
