  • Approximately 2 days per week working from the Milan office (where the laboratory is located)
  • The remainder of the time spent on field activities at customer sites across the region
  • Field activities often include overnight stays away from home

The Opportunity:

Our Technical Service Organisation currently has an open position for a Technical Service Engineer to join our team. We are looking for a motivated individual with proven experience focusing on in-house technical service maintenance calibration validation and repair of our sold portfolio of laboratory instruments.

PROFILE

The purpose of the Technical Service Engineer role is to install repair calibrate and validate instruments in-house or at customers sites. The Technical Service Engineer is responsible for processing customer requests resolving technical issues handling general enquiries cross-referencing expediting and communicating with internal teams suppliers customers and sales representatives. The Technical Service Engineer serves as a liaison with all parties to enable sales growth. The Technical Service Engineer seeks to achieve customer satisfaction in every transaction and can play a key role in assisting the sales team to identify solution selling opportunities.

  • Increase competitive advantage and drive customer satisfaction by building trust and developing relationships.
  • Provide high-level technical support.
  • Help to meet customer needs and provide qualified technical service solutions installation qualification operational qualification and performance qualification.
  • Develop proactive solutions to create opportunities for selling the VWR portfolio of products and services.
  • Follow up with internal teams suppliers and customers on any outstanding issues.
  • Proactively interact with field sales and sales representatives (CSR). Provide high-level quality service to enable sales growth.
  • Efficiently coordinate information flow.
  • Utilise local cross-functional contacts to help achieve targets. Utilise the VWR CRM database to manage customer requests interactions and information that will increase effectiveness and aid the level of technical service performance and results.
  • Travel extensively (80%) to customer sites across the assigned region to carry out on-site service activities including overnight travel.
  • Represent the company professionally during all field visits and maintain readiness for frequent travel.

What We Are Looking For

  • Technical/Professional School qualification plus 5 years of experience in a fast-paced customer-focused technical service environment.
  • Mandatory hands-on experience in installation maintenance troubleshooting and/or repair of laboratory instruments such as: Autoclaves water baths centrifuges chillers climatic chambers colony counters fridges/freezers biosafety hoods HPLC systems chromatographs microscopes mixers ovens pH meters pipettes samplers scales spectrophotometers ULT freezers.
  • Ability to perform key field service activities: installation IQ/OQ preventive maintenance repair and calibration.
  • Strong technical and electronic knowledge (mandatory).
  • Degree-level education (advantageous).
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively utilize technology platforms including CRM tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Italian native-level proficiency and fluency in English (written and spoken); additional languages are an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to comfortably interact with various client (local & export) and supplier types (e.g. technical end user and economic buyers).
  • Good time management problem solving and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic field environment; professional reliable and team-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 80%) including overnight stays as required by the role.
