About the role

AEMOs WA Future System Design & Transformation group is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation supporting AEMOs mission of designing a sustainable energy system that provides affordable safe and reliable energy for all Australians.

You will be responsible for supporting the long-term energy outlooks for Western Australias electricity and gas demand and supply the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) and the WA Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO). These flagship reports support industry in planning for the Energy transition.

This is a 6-month Fixed Term Contract. The team is based in Perth with remote working options also available across Adelaide Brisbane Sydney and Melbourne offices.

What you will be doing

  • Support the development of AEMOs annual flagship publications the WEM ESOO and the WA GSOO leading the development of main chapters for publication such as reliability supply demand and consumption.
  • Collect and analyse data from AEMO teams such as WA System Engineering WA Operational Planning & Forecasting and WA Distributed Markets.
  • Collect and analyse data from external stakeholders such as Energy Policy WA Western Power and industry market participants.
  • Analyse and model energy demand and supply trends across electricity and gas systems.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for improved alignment between the WEM ESOO and WA GSOO publications and AEMOs National Electricity Market ESOO and East Coast GSOO publications.

What you will bring to the role

  • Experience in the electricity and gas sectors with WEM experience preferable but not essential.
  • Forecasting experience using Excel to handle large volumes of data.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in PowerBI and programming languages such as Python R and SQL will be highly regarded.
  • Strong report writing and critical thinking skills.
