Job Summary:
The Sustainability and Energy Manager plays a critical role in driving the organizations financial efficiency and environmental stewardship by overseeing energy consumption and utility expenditures. This role is responsible for monitoring usage trends identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy solutions. By combining data-driven analysis with project management the Energy Manager ensures the organization meets its sustainability goals maintains regulatory compliance and optimizes utility procurement across all facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Energy Monitoring & Analysis: Track and analyze electricity gas water and other utility expenses; identify trends anomalies and inefficiencies in usage across all company sites.
- Cost Optimization & Procurement: Develop and implement strategies to reduce consumption; manage relationships with utility providers and lead energy contract negotiations and hedging strategies.
- Reporting & Dashboards: Maintain energy management dashboards and provide actionable data insights and regular performance reports to senior leadership.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare annual energy budgets create long-term cost forecasts and monitor actual expenditures against financial targets.
- Project Leadership: Lead energy-related capital projects (CAPEX) such as LED retrofits HVAC optimizations and renewable energy installations from planning to closeout.
- Compliance & Incentives: Ensure full compliance with local state and federal energy regulations; lead carbon reporting and ESG initiatives while maximizing available tax incentives and utility rebates.
- Utility Auditing: Conduct regular billing audits to identify errors or incorrect rate structures and manage the recovery process with utility companies.
- Operational Efficiency: Recommend and implement changes to building operations and Demand Response (DR) programs to reduce peak load charges without compromising performance.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Draft and maintain SOPs for the efficient operation of energy-intensive systems and train internal teams on energy conservation best practices.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Facility Managers Procurement Engineering and Finance to align energy goals with broader business objectives.
- Risk Management: Identify risks related to energy price volatility or regulatory shifts and communicate mitigation strategies to leadership.
- Additional Tasks: Perform additional tasks as assigned to ensure the successful execution of the organizations energy and sustainability strategy.
- Other core expectations as defined by the company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Energy Management Engineering Environmental Science Business or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in energy management utility analysis or facilities operations.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in energy management software utility billing platforms or advanced Excel.
- Professional certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or LEED accreditation are highly preferred.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) and renewable energy projects.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical data into financial business cases.
- High ethical standards and a proactive collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and carbon accounting protocols.
Work Environment:
- Hours of work may vary depending on business needs; flexibility is required.
- Role requires the ability to listen and speak to other employees.
- Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers and filing cabinets. Specific vision capabilities required; the employee is to work in front of a computer sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods is required.
- This job may operate in a hot high humid environment where temperature average 90 degrees Fahrenheit but may increase to approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summertime. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery and forklift truck operation
- This job may be operated in a refrigerated warehouse where temperatures range from 45-55F. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery and forklift truck operation
- The position may involve needing to lift to 30 pounds occasionally up to 50-pounds (e.g. filing boxes).
Compensation & Benefits:
This position offers a salary range of $80000 $125000 CAD annually commensurate with experience skills and internal addition Pure Flavor provides a competitive total rewards package that includes company-paid benefits RRSP matching and paid time off.
