Role Overview
Harvard-Westlake School seeks an Upper School Academic Support Specialist to join the Learning Center for the 202627 school year. This full-time position beginning in August 2026 supports students in grades 1012 in cultivating effective learning habits strengthening academic skills and fostering independence within a rigorous college-preparatory environment.
The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of learning differences current and accepted brain research and methodologies and evidence-based academic interventions. They are skilled in supporting students across the writing process and demonstrate cultural competency in their work with students families faculty and other stakeholders.
About the Learning Center
The Learning Center supports students with a wide range of learning profiles and works collaboratively with faculty counselors deans and families to promote academic growth self-advocacy and independence. Members of the Learning Center team play a vital role in helping students build skills confidence and strategies that allow them to thrive in Harvard-Westlakes academically demanding environment.
Responsibilities
Areas of focus include but are not limited to:
- Supporting a targeted caseload of students with an emphasis on academic skill development and individualized learning strategies
- Meeting one-on-one with students to strengthen executive functioning skills including planning organization work completion communication and self-advocacy
- Serving as a liaison between the Learning Center and the English Department particularly in supporting students through the writing process
- Designing and leading workshops for students on topics such as study skills executive functioning time management and subject-specific academic strategies
- Collaborating closely with faculty and administrators to advocate for students and partner with families around learning differences and individualized academic needs
- Working with teachers to support differentiated instruction and foster a student-centered learning environment aligned with Harvard-Westlakes academic standards

- High standards of confidentiality when handling sensitive student and family information
Education and Experience
Required:
- Masters degree in education Board Certified Educational Therapist credential valid teaching credential (mild/moderate disabilities) or related professional experience
- Minimum of three years experience teaching or supporting students with diagnosed learning differences or serving as a learning specialist with students in grades 1012
- Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional practices that promote student independence organization and academic success
- Ability to read and synthesize neuropsychological evaluations Section 504 plans and Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and to develop formal education plans based on accommodations offered by Harvard-Westlake
- Experience collaborating with faculty administrators and families to implement individualized learning plans

About Harvard-Westlake
Harvard-Westlake is an independent school with two campuses in Los Angeles and approximately 1600 students enrolled in grades 712. Classes for grades 79 take place on the Middle School campus in the Holmby Hills neighborhood while grades 1012 are housed on the Upper School campus in Studio City. A third campus River Park focused on athletics and recreation is scheduled to open in Fall 2026.

Compensation
Anticipated base compensation for this position is $85000$105000 depending on experience.
Schedule
Typically Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with occasional events as needed.
