Description
Hennepin County is seeking a Corrections Area Director of Field Services for the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). The Area Director will provide strategic leadership operational accountability and oversight for three Adult Field Divisions (pre-adjudication probation and parole services) and juvenile probation.
DOCCRs mission is to enhance community safety promote community restoration and reduce the risk of re-offense. We are an equity focused client-centered employee driven department.
The Area Director reports to the Director of DOCCR and is responsible for working collaboratively with the Director of DOCCR other Area Directors and leaders under their supervision as well as external partners to uphold the missions and values of Hennepin County and the department.
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid. Work will be performed both on-site at the Government Center in downtown Minneapolis probation locations across Hennepin County and remotely as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position you will:- Provide strategic direction and oversight in Field Services to ensure service delivery consistent with the departments vision and mission.
- Develop and review departmental area budgets.
- Direct the implementation of evidence-based practices in the areas of adult and juvenile community corrections supervision.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with the county board; other county departments; professional governmental private organizations and other stakeholders.
- Establish performance measures evaluate performance outcomes and plan service changes.
- Provide administrative and supervisory coaching and direction to management and other direct staff reports.
- Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration with internal divisions and other Hennepin County departments.
- Represent the department in both state-wide and county-wide projects and initiatives.
- Oversee the planning implementation monitoring and evaluation of integrated operations and services for efficiency effectiveness and evaluation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
- One of the following:
- Masters degree or higher in a behavioral/social science criminal justice business administration corrections public administration or a related field and four years or more of management or administrative experience in a large organization
- Bachelors degree in one of the above fields and five years or more of management or administrative experience in a large organization
- Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience:
- Supervising operations in a corrections setting as well as experience leading top level managers and their teams.
- Collaborating with top level management to strategically develop budgets to align with the departments strategic plan while being fiscally responsible.
- Building and maintaining strategic internal and external partnerships for effective and innovative programming that reflect both the countys and departments mission vision and core values.
- Researching and recommending changes and improvements that incorporate evidence-based trauma-informed culturally responsive person-centered and data-driven practice.
- Providing strategic leadership towards reducing systemic disparities addressing the impacts of structural and institutional racism applying diversity equity and inclusion best practices in collaboration with staff partners and those we serve.
- Knowledge of:
- Organization and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs policies and operational needs.
- State rules and requirements that govern correctional the supervision of clients.
- The theory and application of Evidence Based Practices.
- Ability to:
- Lead supervise and develop direct reports through coaching mentoring and performance management techniques.
- Analyze problems identify alternative solutions and project both intended and unintended consequences of proposed actions.
- Communicate effectively with leaders and employees at all levels of the organization engage with community members and system partners.
- Interpret and apply federal state local and department policies procedures laws and regulations.
- Identify and utilize technological solutions to increase efficiencies.
- Apply diversity equity and inclusion best practices in collaboration with staff partners and those we serve.
- Foster an environment that recognizes and respects differences and provides culturally responsive services.
