Job Summary

Position Summary

Under immediate to moderate supervision performs as the primary source of financial aid information by providing direct face-to-face electronic and voice administrative support to prospective currently or previously enrolled students their parents faculty staff and outside agencies regarding the delivery process for Federal state and institutional financial aid. Also assists in processing the financial aid data as directed. This position is located at the main campus but may report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position. This position will include managing a virtual office as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist students with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Assist students with accessing their tax transcripts and verification documents.
Counsel perspective and current students concerning their eligibility for federal state and institutional financial aid.
Counsel students in completing Entrance Loan Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN).
Maintain accurate student records in the computer and in the files.
Answers incoming calls.
Tracks all incoming and outgoing documents by mail fax or email.
Maintains the Financial Aid general email account.
Work cooperatively with other offices on campus.
Assist students in accessing data in the Banner System
Other duties as assigned that support the mission and vision of the institution.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associates degree preferred
Experience
  • 6-12 months direct experience with financial aid programs at a post-secondary institution preferred
  • At least one year experience demonstrating knowledge of computer information systems
  • Combination of education and experience should provide incumbent with necessary skills and practical knowledge to meet the job requirements.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of Federal and state financial aid programs preferred
  • Must possess the ability to rapidly comprehend interpret and apply various institutional state and Federal guidelines governing financial aid.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and computerized financial aid management system preferably BANNER
  • Effective and professional communication skills both written and verbal are needed to uphold and project a positive image of the College to the public.
  • Math and analytical skills required for manipulation of data.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality due to the nature of the information handled in this position.
  • Proficient computer skills using MS Office products (Word Excel etc.)
