Job Summary

Title: Part-time Evening Adult Education and Literacy Instructor

Term:Part-time/11 Month (approximately 6 hours per week)

Classification: Non-Exempt

Location: AEL Learning Center 123 S. Main

Monday & Wednesday nights from 5:00pm to 8:00pm

Hourly Rate: $18.50

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required must attend online pre-certification workshops and Maintain 20 hours of professional development per year
  • Must earn and maintain AEL instructor certification
  • Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to pass a background check;
  • Teaching or tutoring experienced preferred
  • Experience working with adult learnings preferred

Summary

The Adult Education & Literacy Instructor provides high-quality instruction to adult learners in basic skills high school equivalency preparation and career readiness. Instruction may be delivered one-on-one in small groups in person or remotely. The instructor supports student assessment orientation documentation and persistence while maintaining a welcoming student-centered learning environment

Job Goal: To help in the development and promotion of AEL and Franklin Technology Center Adult programs offered for adult students.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide instruction in reading writing mathematics science social studies and workforce readiness in a multi-level adult classroom
  • Deliver engaging active instruction using whole-group guided and independent practice
  • Prepare learning plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and instructional levels
  • Conduct student orientation enrollment assessment (pre- and post-testing) and related test proctoring in accordance with program and testing guidelines
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and required documentation
  • Support student goal-setting related to education employment and career pathways
  • Transition instruction to virtual or blended formats when needed
  • Participate in staff meetings professional development and required training
  • Collaborate with AEL staff community partners and workforce agencies
  • Assist with student follow-up retention and transitions to postsecondary education or employment
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Technology Skills:

  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to use online instructional platforms and student data systems
  • Ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment
