Rate of Pay:Band 4: $31.46 - $34.37 per hour (Subject to CUPE 1015 Agreement)
Location:Operations Centre (6623 52 Street Lloydminster)
Duties:






The Parks Caretaker workers keep up the appearance health and safety of landscapes and trees. Parks Caretakers beautify the park grounds by keeping lawns green and litter-free and by planting and tending to annual flowers that change with the seasons as well as perennial trees shrubs and flowering plants. To keep the park safe caretakers prune trees and shrubs to prevent insect damage disease or dyeing branches that may cause safety to public or city property as needed. They do everything they can to ensure the park is attractive and usable by community members.

Duties
  • Carrying out replacement planting maintenance removal programs for all tree shrubs and flower beds throughout the city.
  • Replace Maintain and create landscaped areas in park amenities and around facilities.
  • Participate in all pruning operations and programs including use of bucket truck to prune trees.
  • Operation of a wood chipper in means of disposal of tree waste.
  • Maintain park space and boulevard trees.
  • Design and estimate flower bed layouts through out Lloydminster
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
  • Operate turf and landscaping equipment
  • Rehabilitation of damaged turf areas.
  • May be required to oversee and assist in the training of summer seasonal parks staff.
  • String light installation with the aid of a bucket truck through out park amenities and city facilities.
  • May be required to oversee and assist in the training of summer seasonal parks staff.
  • Keep trails and paths clear of any debris and in good condition
  • Pick up litter and remove bagged trash in park amenities and facilities
  • Remove snow and ice and maintain safe walking surfaces during cold months
  • Perform heavy lifting and manual labour.
  • Work on and maintain outdoor rinks and pond ice surfaces.
  • General cleaning of worksite equipment and park amenities
  • Operate equipment for the daily operations of the Parks Division
  • Keep accurate documentation such as time sheets equipment inspection sheets hazard identification forms and daily work records.
  • Maintain necessary records maintenance for labor material and equipment.
Other
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Will take an active part in the Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • This position will be required to operate a Municipal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Successful candidate will be required to complete training on operating equipment and assist the equipment operators.
Schedule:
Standard hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. with on-call and weekend shifts.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary from an accredited program in horticulture and Landscaping from a recognized institution is required.
  • 2 years experience in a parks caretaker position or a related field.
  • Experience in flower/shrub bed design and quantity estimate for quotation purposes
  • Must obtain or be currently qualified to obtain a Pesticide applicators license as issued by Alberta Environment.
  • Competency in using a chainsaw.
  • Experience in using a Wood chipper
  • ISA arborist accreditation or a willingness to get it would be an asset.
  • Must be capable of operating small maintenance equipment and hand tools in an efficient and responsible manner in accordance with recognized procedures.
  • Landscape and snow removal experience
  • Previous supervisor/lead-hand experience is considered an asset
  • Experience in the operations a Skid-steer landscape tractor aerial lifts
  • Must be able to work at heights using an aerial device safely and efficiently
  • Experience in operation of small landscaping equipment
  • The ability to work on a natural ice surface. (Bud Miller Lake)
  • Must possess and maintain as a minimum Class 5 Drivers License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with Air Endorsement. A clean driving record is mandatory supported by a driver abstract
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate documentation such as time sheets equipment inspection sheets hazard identification forms and daily work records via Smart devices/computers/cell phones
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understand written and verbal forms of communication as well communicate clearly and concisely; written and verbal form
  • Must be in good physical condition to accommodate long periods of standing and lifting up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • The successful candidate will be responsible reliable with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Candidate will be required to complete training on the maintenance and operation of the equipment used by Equipment Operators
