At SA Recycling Safety is our number one priority for this position. This heavy equipment hauler is responsible for operating a Class A commercial vehicle with a lowboy RGN or other specialized trailer to transport heavy construction equipment materials and other oversized cargo. The role requires a strong dedication to safety adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and the ability to load secure and unload equipment safely. Drivers must conduct themselves professionally when dealing with customers and their employees. They follow all DOT Regulations in-yard rules for driving in close quarters and all traffic controllers. Must wear seat belts at all times while driving and be visible on camera at all times.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Safe equipment transportation: Transport heavy machinery such as excavators bulldozers and loaders to and from various job sites.
- Proper loading and unloading: Operate a variety of heavy machinery to self-load and unload equipment onto trailers and use correct securing techniques with chains binders and other equipment.
- Pre- and post-trip inspections: Conduct daily safety inspections of the truck trailer and all related equipment and document any defects.
- Compliance and record-keeping: Maintain compliance with all federal state and local transportation laws including hours of service regulations. Maintain accurate logbooks and other required paperwork.
- Route planning: Plan optimal routes for oversized loads taking into account height weight limits and road restrictions.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with dispatchers supervisors and site managers to coordinate delivery schedules and provide status updates.
- Vehicle maintenance: Perform basic maintenance on the truck and report any major mechanical issues to the fleet department.
- Adapt to conditions: Demonstrate flexibility by adapting to changing weather traffic and delivery schedules
