II. Basic Function

Responsibleforthepreventiveemergencyandrehabilitativemedicalcareofthevarsityathletic team coverage forNDMU sports camps andclinics asneeded.

III. Essential Functions

  1. Provide preventive care and emergency treatment for NDMU varsity student-athletes at all home contests and practices.
  2. Provide rehabilitation supervision and other follow-up treatment for NDMU varsity student athletes.
  3. Serve as an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for Towson University Student Athletic Trainers.
  4. Provides care and treatment of visiting team student-athletes. Communicate recommended follow-up treatment to visiting coach and athletic trainer.
  5. Maintain injury treatment and rehabilitation records; prepare end-of-season summaries for the Director of Athletics.
  6. Serve as primary liaison to NDMUs team physician as well as student-athletes personal physicians. Provide referrals to other physicians as treatment requires.
  7. Communicate with opposing team athletic trainers regarding treatment for NDMU student athletes prior to travel.
  8. Regular professional communication with coaches student-athletes athletic department staff and student-workers.
  9. Attend athletics department meetings.
  10. Ensure the athletic training departments compliance with applicable laws surrounding health information privacy (HIPAA) FERPA Title IX etc.
  11. Ensure the athletic training departments compliance with NDMU conference and NCAA policies and procedures.
  12. Coordinate purchasing and maintain inventory of all medical treatment supplies and equipment.
  13. Use injury maintenance software to maintain student-athlete health records and injury documentation.
  14. Attend the yearly athletic conference athletic training meeting.
  15. Collaborate with the Department of Campus Security the servicing and maintenance of the Athletic Departments Automatic External Defibrillators (AED).
  16. Coordinate with the University Laboratory Safety Officer for the disposal of medical waste and compliance with University OSHA safety guidelines.
  17. Prepare and maintain first aid kits for team travel.
  18. Teach and supervise 2-3 student-athletic trainers from the Towson University Athletic Training Program.
  19. Required to cover summer sports camps and/or clinics as hosted by NDMU.
  20. Performs such similar comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.

IV. Qualifications

Knowledge: Qualified candidates will have a bachelors degree with a masters degree preferred current NATABOC certification Maryland Licensure by the Maryland Board of Physicians or be eligible for certification and CPR/AED for the Healthcare Provider certification by a NATA approved provider. Preference will be given to candidates who have certification as CPR/AED instructors. Candidates should be detail oriented highly organized computer literate and able to operate injury rehabilitation equipment. Candidates need to be available to work evening and weekend hours.

Experience: Minimum one-year experience as an athletic trainer at the collegiate level or the high school level preferred.

Skills/Aptitude: Detail oriented highly organized ability to communicate professionally and effectively computer literate able to operate injury rehabilitation equipment and familiar with fitness and conditioning equipment. Use of injury maintenance software to track and document athletic injuries and conditions.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Will involve evening and weekend commitments. Will require long periods of standing sitting or walking. Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and assist with game day setup. This position has been identified as having a potential risk/or occupational exposure to potentially infectious material; as such this position is required to be offered the Hepatitis B Vaccine at no cost to the employee and annual training on Preventing Exposure to Bloodbourne Pathogens must be completed.
