As a result of an upcoming vacancy Delta School District is seeking applications for the position of Acting Elementary Principal.
The Delta School District aims to be an innovative inclusive community where all learners belong and everyone soars. We are a District of more than 16000 students and 3000 employees. The Districts mission is to inspire and nurture thriving future-ready learners at each of its 31 schools located in Ladner North Delta and Tsawwassen. Our schools and District offices are located on the traditional territories of the Tsawwassen and Musqueam First Nations. The Principal plays an integral role as part of the District management team and of the school to which they are assigned. The Principal is responsible for the overall supervision and operation of their individual school and also plays an appropriate leadership role in District initiatives.
Expectations and responsibilities of Delta Principals include:
- Projecting a clear sense of direction consistent with District Vision 2030
- Working to develop a Framework for Enhancing Student Learning based on the needs of the learners.
- Participating actively in the planning monitoring and evaluation of the instructional program
- Demonstrating knowledge of curriculum instruction and assessment
- Understanding child development as it pertains to learning.
- Working with staff to build knowledge and expertise related to assessment strategies.
- Establishing a safe orderly environment that promotes teaching and learning.
- Encouraging and providing support for the professional learning of staff and participating in a program of personal and professional learning.
- Keeping informed about current research trends and practices in education
- Acting as a symbol of the schools culture through articulating and modeling goals and behaviors that signal to others what is of importance and value.
- Demonstrating strong human relations and communication skills
- Developing positive and supportive relationships within an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
- Fostering supportive attitudes among community members including providing opportunities for members of the community to associate productively with the schools personnel and programs.
- Planning and organizing school operations and routines supervising a variety of personnel and students and ensuring the effective management of the school property.
- Successful Vice-Principal experience
- Masters degree in an area such as Leadership Curriculum or Learning
