An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Research Officer (Senior Assay Development Scientist) to join the Australian Centre for Targeted Therapeutics (ACTT) at Australias pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the position
ACTTs vision is to transform the lives of cancer patients through a new class of medicines that unlock previously undruggable targets. Located at WEHIs Bundoora Biotech Centre ACTT focuses on the development of new targeted protein degraders against validated cancer-driving proteins with an initial focus on cancers with high-mortality rates.
The Senior Assay Development Scientist will be responsible for driving assay development efforts to optimise and validate biochemical cell-based and high-content assays and other assays to support drug discovery and development efforts.
The role forms part of ACTTs multidisciplinary team providing assay development expertise to guide project strategy and achieve milestones. Prior experience of targeted protein degradation projects is desirable but not essential. The position reports to the Biology Lead at ACTT.
Selection Criteria
A PhD in Biochemistry Molecular Biology Pharmacology or a related discipline
2 years experience at a postdoctoral level or equivalent in assay development preferably in the small molecule drug discovery field
Demonstrated ability to apply sound assay development principles to a range of assay technologies
Hands-on experience with various assay formats including cellular assays high-throughput assays ligand-binding assays etc..
Outstanding academic or industry track record (e.g. peer-reviewed publications and/or patents)
A demonstrated ability to problem-solve within a team environment
Demonstrated ability to independently lead supervise and mentor more junior scientists in the chemistry lab
Enthusiasm for timely delivery of project milestones in a fast-paced team atmosphere
Experience of CRO management is highly desired
Terms of appointment
This position is available in a full-time capacity until the 30th of March 2027. Salary is Research Employee Level B ($117596 $139636). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
