The Mental Health Program continues to advance its established model of care in partnership with the Emergency Department to enhance patient care and timely access to services. We are seeking nurses who are passionate about the art and science of emergency mental health nursing to join our dedicated team.
The successful candidate will perform comprehensive mental health and risk assessments provide one-to-one supportive interventions and deliver high-quality medical care. This role requires full-scope nursing practice aligned with the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Standards.
BAS nurses report to the Mental Health & Addiction Program and work collaboratively with the Emergency Department inpatient programs and a broad network of hospital and community partners
Qualifications :

- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred;
- Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire;
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in mental health required.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent psychiatric emergency experience required
- Mental health community experience preferred
- Advanced skill in the assessment and management of acute mental health and concurrent disorders conditions including mental status examination suicide risk assessment management of aggressive behaviour bio-psychosocial assessment physical health assessment treatment and transitional care;
- Additional experience in addictions and/or medical/surgical or emergency nursing would be considered an asset;
- Current certification in non-violent crisis intervention
- Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable health care legislations
Additional skills:
- Demonstrated ability to perform charge nurse duties preferred;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize care and make informed autonomous decisions;
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex and difficult patient and family situations;
- Physical ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour;
- Proficient in the use of computers with the ability to type notes and utilize the electronic health record;
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent organization time management professionalism and ability to work as part of team;
- Excellent attendance punctuality and work record required;
- Passion for change quality improvement and professional development
The ideal candidate is strong in patient centred care in a dynamic rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to foster teamwork and cooperation.
Additional Information :
Hours: Monday to Sunday Various 12 hour shifts 1930-0730 (hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $40.24 to $57.68 per hour
