The Role:

We have a permanent full-time Leading Hand position available for a talented and dedicated Heavy Vehicle Mechanic as part of our Fleet Services Business. Joining a national business unit that delivers asset maintenance across various sites nationwide. The role based in Perth Western Australia at RAAF Pearce Airforce base will have you oversee service delivery across multiple sites including Garden Island Pearce Learmonth and more. The successful candidate will help establish and lead a highly skilled close-knit team that is responsible for delivering high value critical maintenance services on various fleets of specialised light and heavy vehicles for government defence and commercial customers with an immediate focus on supporting fleets of Aviation Refuelling Vehicles Ground Support Equipment as well as various Special Purpose Vehicles. The leading hand will oversee all aspects of local operations working closely with management and staff to ensure customer success and profitable growth.

This role includes company provided fully maintained vehicle tooling laptop and phone with ongoing training and professional development available.

To be considered for this role the candidate must:

  • Be an Australian citizen and be able to successfully complete a federal police check (to meet appropriate security clearance).
  • Successfully complete a pre-placement medical including D&A testing.
  • Hold a valid Australian full drivers licence and be willing to obtain HR>HC/DG licenses.
  • Be a trade qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
  • **Plant Mechanics also considered.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years trade experience.

  • Be able to successfully lead and manage a team ensuring they are supported and enabled to deliver successful outcomes for our customers.
  • Be able to coordinate and mange suppliers and stakeholders in accordance with customer policy and procedures to ensuring effective outcomes for customer.
  • Have a Safety-first mentality with a focus on quality workmanship.
  • Have an eye for detail and the ability to follow process and procedures.
  • A strong commitment to delivering positive outcomes for the customer.
  • Have the ability to travel from as required to support the customer.
  • Have excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of hazardous and military standards
  • Have a high level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated experience with hydraulic pneumatic and (12/24v) electrical control systems.
  • Be confident in reading interpreting and utilizing schematics and work instructions.
  • Be willing to undertake and maintain training and upskilling initiatives.
  • **Experience with Aviation refuelling vehicles Ground support equipment highly regarded.
  • **Relevant defence trade experience also highly regarded.
