At Te Pokapū Aurorotanga / CELM youll play a key role in teaching second- and third year medical students at a critical point in their learning journey. Youll join a collaborative team from the Faculty of Medicine Dunedin and the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences working together to deliver the Early Learning in Medicine (ELM) curriculum.

Our programme blends science clinical experience and hauora-based frameworks (Te Whare Tapa Whā Fonofale biopsychosocial models) to prepare future clinicians for safe compassionate and culturally grounded practice.

These roles are ideal for health professionals or biomedical scientists who want to contribute to medical education enjoy small-group teaching and value flexibility.

About the programme Mō te hōtaka

The ELM curriculum includes three key modules taught mainly in small-group settings (1124 students):

Clinical Skills
Teach core clinical skillshistory taking physical examination reasoningwith support from simulated and community volunteer patients. Ideal for medically qualified tutors who enjoy hands-on teaching.

Early Professional Experience (EPE)
Guide students as they engage with patients and health professionals across real-world settings. Facilitate structured discussions to help students understand social clinical and professional issues that bridge theory and practice.

Integrated Cases
Lead case-based learning that integrates content across all ELM modules. Designed for active task-based learning; suitable for clinicians or educators with strong facilitation skills.

Applicants may teach into one or multiple modules depending on experience.

The role Te mahi

As a Teaching Fellow/Senior Teaching Fellow you will:
Prepare for and lead engaging small-group tutorials.
Facilitate interactive student-centred learning.
Contribute to assessments and provide meaningful academic and professional feedback.
Support students to grow as reflective culturally capable future clinicians.
Be part of a team that values collegiality innovation diversity and excellence in medical education.

What youll bring Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for health professionals or biomedical/pre-clinical scientists who have:
Experience in medical clinical or undergraduate teaching (preferred).
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the university environment.
A genuine student-centred approach to teaching.
A desire to support the diverse strengths and backgrounds of ELM students.
Understanding of modern medical education practices.
A relevant health professional or biomedical qualification.
Strong teamwork skills and reflective practice.
Confidence using learning management systems (e.g. Moodle).
Professionalism when working across disciplines cultures and academic levels.

Expressions of Interest Tono mai

We will/may have multiple opportunities arising throughout 2026 and if successful you will join our Teaching Fellow talent pool. Appointments will then be on an as-needed fixed term basis (to be negotiated).

The appointment range for the Teaching Fellow role is $75727 to $87849.

The appointment range for the Senior Teaching Fellow role is $105665 to $114943.

You must have the right to live and work in Aotearoa New Zealand.
