We currently have an opportunity for a Water Safety Management Supervisor tojoin our Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice team to help deliver key initiatives in the Water Safety Improvement Plan. Te Kōwhiringa The Opportunity

Downer holds a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. This involves the proactive management and delivery to the national portfolio of facilities including 15 prisons 100 courts and 157 community correctional sites. This contract underpins the provision of availability of facilities to support core Government services.

We are seeking a motivated and responsible professional to ensure the consistent delivery of safe high-quality drinking water that meets all regulatory and operational standards within the capabilities of our treatment plant and associated systems.

This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules 2022 including conducting potable water sampling as required and ensuring all onsite potable water facilities and assets are effectively operated and maintained.

What Youll Do

This role offers a broad scope with key responsibilities including:

  • Operate and maintain all onsite potable water treatment facilities and associated assets

  • Conduct potable water sampling and testing in accordance with regulatory requirements

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant drinking water standards and internal procedures

  • Maintain accurate detailed and timely records and compliance reports

  • Implement proactive and preventative maintenance strategies

  • Identify and escalate operational risks to ensure system integrity and public safety

  • Support and train staff in water treatment processes and potable water system management

Business continuity is essential to the success of this role. Accordingly the successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility in working hours including availability to respond to operational call-outs outside standard business hours. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively to meet deadlines and operational requirements are critical to ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

  • National Certificate in Water Treatment (Level 4 or higher) and Class 1 Drivers Licence

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel Word PowerPoint)

  • Experience in potable water sampling data collection and compliance reporting/auditing

  • Certified or experienced in chemical handling working at heights and confined space entry

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience engaging with the public

  • Self-motivated team-oriented professional with strong risk awareness and a high level of responsibility
