AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The By Law Enforcement Division is looking for motivated team players to assist with the summer inspection duties within the City of Bramptons residential and/or commercial properties.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the guidance of the Supervisor By-Law Enforcement enforce municipal by-laws and provincial legislation pertaining to the minimum maintenance standards of properties which require repairs or general upkeep of the interior and yards. Provide project program and/or administrative support to the division in the field with regards to by-laws and community standards. Ensure efficient and effective delivery of program by attending residences within our community and providing education and enforcement of property maintenance bylaws. Maintain a positive tactful demeanour in confrontational situations with the public making on-the-spot decisions.

  • Respond to complaints and investigate matters surrounding residential commercial and industrial privately owned lands which surround them.
  • Complete administrative duties including preparing Registered Mail documentation record keeping data entry and data management uploading correspondence notes and photographs into data systems.
  • Identify and Issue orders and ensure required remediation is performed and completed such as Notices of Non-compliance Orders to Comply Property Standards Orders and Administrative Monetary Penalties tickets (AMPS) to property owners contravening bylaws.
  • Communicate schedule direct and oversee City contractors self-help projects cutting excessive growth or removal of refuse from required areas.
  • Proactively identify safety hazards on/in buildings and yards on private property.
  • Inspect photograph and document condition of property pre and post contractor work being completed to be utilized to authenticate invoices submitted for payment and to be added to the property tax roll.
  • Assist the enforcement team with special projects filing and implementation of division projects and operations.
  • Communicate and liaise regularly with internal and external contacts including Works Parks Peel Public Health Peel Regional Police contractors homeowners agents and lawyers.
  • Provide information and educate the public on by-law matters in person over the telephone through correspondence and through Enforcement public awareness initiatives.
  • Cause all administration fees and contractor fees related to self-help projects are added to property taxes for collection.
  • Participate in working groups and brainstorming sessions to provide input and ideas.
  • Perform other and similar related duties as assigned.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of High School (Grade 12) graduation or equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Fulltime post-secondary program returning for the upcoming fall semester in Municipal Law Enforcement Police Foundations Law & Society Law & Security Criminology Law or any other related discipline.

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Valid Ontario non-probationary Class G license with a clear driving record and able to obtain a City of Brampton Drivers Permit.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to obtain a criminal background check.

**Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.
