Who youll work with

We are looking for an intern to join our Balance Sheet and Exposure Management team within Total Fund Management. The team provides best-in-class management of our passive cross-asset investment portfolio including the implementation of asset mix changes using a combination of derivative and cash instruments. Working closely with subject matter experts across all asset classes the team is responsible for managing passive exposures optimizing balance sheet resources and enabling the funds capital and funding needs while maintaining resilience and liquidity.

You will work alongside experienced professionals who specialize in different asset classes and learn how balance sheet liquidity and passive exposure decisions are made at a total-fund level. This integrated team structure provides a great opportunity to build technical skills understand how large institutional portfolios operate and gain exposure to work that directly impacts the Fund.

What youll do

As an intern in Total Fund Management you will be encouraged to make the most of your experience at OTPP by asking questions and getting involved in our daily business right from the start. Total Fund Management encourages the development of its interns and offers a unique experience with direct exposure to markets in an institutional setting.

Throughout the internship you will support a team that manages a large diversified investment portfolio across the equity fixed income commodity credit and foreign exchange asset classes. The successful candidate will gain experience in managing our asset mix positions while supporting the Funds risk-adjusted return targets subject to our internal constraints including risk liquidity and leverage.

Each day will present unique challenges that require teamwork collaboration and real-time problem solving across global markets. As a member of this team you will have the opportunity to tackle ad-hoc issues and develop tools that enhance analytics to support investment decision-making. The role involves regular interaction with the trading team to ensure seamless market access for position management.

What youll need

  • You are enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate studies or pursuing graduate studies.
  • You are naturally inquisitive and demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving.
  • You aspire to thrive in a dynamic environment and can work well within a team setting.
  • You have strong skills in programming concepts with proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • You are comfortable using generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) to draft and refine prompts accelerate research and enhance workflows including code generation and debugging.
  • You have experience in creating dashboards with proficiency in Microsoft Power BI being an asset.
  • While your specific field of study is flexible we encourage applications from those with a strong academic record and a shared passion for financial markets.
  • You must be enrolled in a co-op program or returning to your studies after the work term is completed.

Compensation

The expected hourly range for this role is $30 to $36 depending on experience and qualifications.
