A Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for supporting the nursing and medical providers in administering care to patients with various injuries illnesses or disabilities. Their duties include helping patients bathe maintain proper hygiene meal assistance and assessing patients vital signs to notify licensed nurses of any changes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to care for and help patients with activities of daily living.
2. Ability to read interpret and follow all written and verbal instructions.
3. Ability to communicate in a tactful and caring manner.
4. Ability to effectively work with co-workers and other nursing personnel to provide quality care to the patient.
5. Responsible for documenting in the patients clinical record nursing care provided accurately and timely.
6. Receives report from Charge Nurse for assigned patients.
7. Assists with feeding and setting up of patients meal trays.
8. Assists patients with dressing if indicated making sure that hands and face are washed peri-care is provided oral hygiene is provided and hair is combed/brushed. Makes the patients bed.
9. Measures and records intake and output if indicated.
10. Obtains accurate weight and height for patients.
11. Appropriately turn and position patient in bed based on patient plan of care.
12. Provides preventive skin care.
13. Trims and cleans nails for patients who do not require specialized treatment (i.e. diabetic patients).
14. Provides incontinence care for appropriate patients to ensure patients are clean and dry.
15. Observes reports and documents any unusual behavior or mood changes of patients.
16. Obtains and records vital signs for patients as instructed.
17. Assists in keeping the patients room and closet neat and orderly to the extent possible.
18. Promptly answers the call system.
19. Reports any observations pertinent to changes in the patients physical status to the charge nurse promptly.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
3. Current CPR Healthcare Provider certification preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods standing walking working and frequently pulling pushing and bending.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to move 150 pounds with assistance.
