Kick-start your career in Business Administration with an exciting apprenticeship in our expanding Scientific Computing Department. Youll play a vital role supporting our scientific and technical teams in delivering world-class research.

This is a varied and rewarding role offering hands-on experience and plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. We are looking for an enthusiastic motivated individual with a can do attitude ready to contribute to our Scientific Computing Administration Team which spans twelve members across Harwell and Daresbury Laboratory in Warrington Cheshire.

As an apprentice youll gain practical experience in business and administrative tasks helping our team run smoothly and efficiently. Youll develop skills in organisation communication and project supportall while making a real impact in a professional environment.

Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship

Training provider

Warringtonand Vale Royal College: Business Apprenticeship Warrington & Vale Royal College

Block release - 1 day at college per week for 12 weeks

Monthly assessor meetings - workplace visits or online

What Youll Be Doing Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Update andmaintainthe department organogram.
  • Support the Scientific Computing Seminar Series.
  • Support the Scientific Computing Events Coordinatorwith department events.
  • Attend and support workshops asrequired- Be available to travel/work to support events and visit other STFC sites asrequired.
  • Arrangeaccommodation and travel (both overseas and UK)
  • Organise internalmeetings

Entry Requirements

The below criteria will be scored during Shortlisting (S) Interview (I) or both (S&I).

We are looking for the following:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) (S)
  • An awareness of basic health and safety (I)
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to learn both in the workplace and through formal training (I)
  • Confident using a computer especially tools like Word Excel and Outlook(S&I)
  • A genuine interest in the work of STFC(S&I)
  • Builds relationships by being friendly and approachable(I)
  • Excellent team working ability(S&I)
  • Good at keeping things on track and getting tasks done on time(S&I)

Important Information

  • To complete the apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English. For those sitting their GSCEs in Summer 2026 we would need evidence of your predicted grades.
