The Graduate Assistant will assist the Competitive Sports team (Assistant Director and Coordinator) in the overall administration of the Competitive Sports program which includes Sport Clubs and Intramural Sports Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Design deliver and evaluate trainings meetings and workshops for club officers IM officials and student team members.
Provide guidance for students in their Sport Club leadership roles including assistance with event management budgeting and conflict resolution
Plan and evaluate events including Sport Club Expo Intramural Sport Championship Nights Redbird Rumble the Sport Club Leadership Awards and other program-wide events.
Manage one or more intramural sports including student team member training registration management (IMLeagues) and maintenance during season.
Coordinate and schedule on-campus club practices and competitions at various University facilities.
Collect and verify club travel paperwork waivers and participation statistics.
Hire and evaluate student team members in the role of Supervisor and Official
Regularly review and revise the operating guidelines and procedure manuals
Regularly utilize various software systems for scheduling payroll and event management such as Connect2 Fusion and Redbird Life (Engage)
Assist with payroll and scheduling for student team of around 25-40 students using When2Work and Time Clock Plus
Serve as an instructor for American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid classes for Campus Recreation team members. Develop civic engagement activities that address leadership development and community responsibility.
Develop and maintain professional relationships between the department and many campus-wide organizations.
Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the department.
Campus Recreation encourages the campus community to embrace fun and well-being through movement challenge and play.
The Sport Club Program consists of 29 clubs and 1100 student participants. Campus Recreation provides guidance and support for these clubs including leadership development and event logistics. Questions specific to the position may be directed to Beau Dill Coordinator Competitive Sports .

To be considered for a graduate assistantship a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate work is required. GRE may be required for some programs.
Must apply and be admitted to the Graduate School at Illinois State University. Preferred areas of study include Kinesiology and Recreation (KNR) College of Business College Student Personnel Administration program or a related field.
All candidates should have an interest in recreation as a career and pursue a graduate degree within the School of Kinesiology and Recreation.
Experience in Sport Clubs and/or Intramural Sports program management or student development preferred.
Valid Drivers License and/or ability to obtain valid Drivers License required.
Strong interpersonal leadership and communication skills both verbal and written are expected.

This is a 9 1/2 month Graduate Assistantship with a contract period August 1 2026 - May 14 2027. Graduate Assistant is expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar. Two-year assistantship available pending satisfactory performance
