Are you a creative communicator excited by technology innovation and storytelling As a Digital Marketing Apprentice at the STFC Hartree Centre youll help build and share engaging social media content videos and campaigns. These will highlight how our scientists technologists and professional services teams are driving digital innovation throughout the UK.

Youll apply writing development and video skills to transform complex science and technology projects into clear accessible stories. These stories will engage business and government audiences and show how our work positively impacts society.

About an Apprenticeship at STFC

Were looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals ready to develop their skills through formal training and hands-on experience. As an apprentice youll gain real-world experience build technical and professional skills and contribute to cutting-edge research and innovation in a dynamic supportive environment.

Youll be fully supported throughout the programme with regular check-ins from a dedicated Apprenticeship Coordinator structured training practical experience and mentorship from industry professionals. Their work is essential in highlighting how the Hartree Centres expertise and technologies are helping to strengthen the UKs innovation productivity and digital capability.

What Youll Be Doing Day-to-day responsibilities

As a Digital Marketing Apprentice you will support the planning delivering and evaluation of marketing and communication activities across a range of digital channels. Collaborating with colleagues from the Impact Communications and Business Engagement teams you will help develop and carry out campaigns that increase awareness of the Hartree Centres projects and showcase the advantages of technologies like artificial intelligence supercomputing and quantum computing.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of digital marketing campaigns from concept to evaluation ensuring they align with Hartree Centre objectives and audience needs.
  • Creating curating and optimising content for digital channels including the website blog email newsletters and social media platforms.
  • Using analytics tools to monitor and report on campaign performance identifying insights and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assisting with content scheduling applying best practice to maximise reach and engagement.
  • Contributing to the management of digital assets ensuring brand consistency across multimedia content and materials.
  • Supporting event promotion and business engagement activities helping to design digital content for workshops training programmes and conferences.
  • Conducting market and audience research to inform content strategy and campaign planning.
  • Collaborating with technical experts and partners to translate complex research into accessible impactful stories for business and government audiences.

Entry Requirements

The below criteria will be scored during Shortlisting (S) Interview (I) or both (S&I).

We are looking for the following:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) (S)
  • A minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points at A Level ( x 3 subjects at grades BCC or above) or an equivalent Level 3 qualification i.e. BTEC National Diploma (DMM) (S)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products particularly Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook (S/I)
  • A strong interest in science technology innovation or digital technologies like computing and AI (S/I)
  • A creative eye for design with strong attention to detail (I)
  • Digital literacy and basic knowledge of social media platforms (S/I)
  • Stays organised by keeping track of tasks and managing time well (S/I)
  • Enjoys solving problems thinking things through and coming up with ideas that work (S/I)
  • An awareness of basic health and safety (I)
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to learn both in the workplace and through formal training (I)

Important Information

  • To complete the apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English. For those sitting their GSCEs in Summer 2026 we would need evidence of your predicted grades.
  • You will need to have achieve or predicted to achieve 104 UCAS points or equivalent by September 2026.
