Position Summary

The Senior Property Tax Manager leads the delivery of comprehensive property tax consulting services to both new and existing clients providing strategic results-driven advice on complex property tax matters. With deep expertise in the energy resources and renewable sectors the role oversees the development and execution of specialized consulting solutions tailored to industry-specific challenges.

In addition to client delivery the Senior Property Tax Manager is responsible for managing mentoring and developing a high-performing team ensuring consistent quality technical excellence and effective execution across engagements. The role plays a critical part in expanding and strengthening DMAs property tax consulting practice supporting business development initiatives and reinforcing the firms position as a leading provider of property tax advisory services across Western Canada.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with assessment and taxing officials to achieve maximum tax savings

  • Lead the management of energy resources and renewable sectors property tax portfolios

  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of internal web-based property tax systems and data establishing controls reviewing inputs and ensuring timely and accurate reporting for client and internal use.

  • Lead the preparation review and submission of annual Requests for Information (RFI) ensuring completeness accuracy and strategic positioning in alignment with assessment methodologies.

  • Review analyze and provide technical sign-off on assessment and tax notices identifying valuation issues compliance risks and appeal opportunities in accordance with provincial legislation and municipal bylaws.

  • Plan and conduct detailed field and desktop inspections of energy resources and renewable assets to validate asset inventories classification depreciation cost inputs operational status and asset inclusion or exclusion for assessment purposes.

  • Lead assessment hearings negotiations and dispute resolution processes on behalf of clients including preparation of evidence representation before assessment review boards and settlement discussions.

  • Interpret apply and provide guidance on provincial assessment manuals legislation and evolving policy changes acting as a subject matter expert for clients and internal teams.

  • Develop and oversee property tax forecasts & budgets for our clients

  • Direct the collection and validation of assessment information from assessing jurisdictions ensuring data accuracy and consistency across portfolios.

  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to developing professionals reviewing work products setting expectations and ensuring high-quality consistent service delivery.

  • Assist Director of Practice Development other business development professionals in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Education and Qualifications

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Real Estate Economics Appraisal and Assessment or a related field

  • 5-10 years prior experience in property assessment valuation methodologies with specific experience in energy resources and renewable properties

  • Thorough understanding of municipal taxation systems

  • AIMA/AAA designation preferred

  • Self-starter who can function independently and in a team environment

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Some overnight travel required

  • Valid drivers license
