JOB POSITION #2: Electric Line Patroller/Facilities Locator

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1

DEPARTMENT: Electric Utility

WORK LOCATION: MOC

SALARY RANGE: $31.1798 / Hour

PAY GRADE: 658 Non-Exempt

TYPE OF POSITION: Regular Full-Time

DAYS WORKED: Monday - Friday

HOURS WORKED: 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works under the direct supervision of the Line Department Maintenance Superintendent.

Promotes and follows safe practices procedures and safety rules and participates in scheduled Safety Meetings.

Demonstrates honesty integrity confidentiality dependability and flexibility along with initiative and motivation to organize and complete tasks and meet deadlines.

Performs duties and assignments and conducts self in such a manner as to reflect credit on the Utility.

Patrols transmission and distribution lines by vehicle and on foot to ensure conductor structures and hardware are undamaged and lines are clear of trees and brush.

Identifies and reports any condition to the system that would create a hazard to the public or other workers.

Identifies and files a report on the condition of the system as found. The report will include the problems and damage found on each line section and the condition of the rights-of-way and the extent of the problems and damage found and indicate the level of urgency for repairs.

Installs pole equipment and fuse numbers on poles and equipment which are unmarked.

Recommends location of gates to ensure a secured entry and exit on to FEUS rights-of-way.

Conducts meter counts as required.

Delivers materials tools and equipment to crews in the field as needed.

Locates and marks underground lines and facilities following all rules and regulations of the New Mexico One Call and any other local and state laws.

Works with the Mapping group to ensure all changes in the maps get updated in the field and in the System Control area. This will include making sure all new devices in the field are temporarily written on System Control Maps and field maps with the proper devise numbers noted.

Operates a pilot vehicle to escort oversized loads for the Electric T&D crews.

Works as a flagman when needed to control traffic around work sites.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

May serve on various employee committees as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmingtons Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing post-accident testing random testing reasonable suspicion testing return to duty testing and follow-up testing. Safety sensitive random testing. Extensive background checks required.

While working in the area of high voltages the employee must be able to recognize hazards. The employee needs to understand and maintain safe working distances from energized lines and equipment as stated in the APPA Safety manual and the National Electric Safety Code. The employee must recognize and use the proper PPE at all times.

Must have experience with and understand the New Mexico One Call rules for facilities locating and marking.

High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience in the electric utility trade with the ability to identify materials and equipment used in transmission and distribution lines.

Ability to identify equipment on poles and structures from the ground.

Ability to identify system voltages and any potential hazards due to damage related to high voltage lines and equipment.

Must be able to communicate well both written and verbal. Hand writing must be clear and legible.

Must be able to clearly communicate hazardous conditions to the public and other employees during an emergency situation.

Must have a valid Drivers License.

Ability to read maps locate lines overhead and underground and give directions.

Ability to work with others and precisely follow directions provided by supervisor.

Must be self-motivated since this position is often required to work alone and in remote locations.

Must be able to perform minor vehicle maintenance in the field such as changing a tire.

Ability to enter data in a lap top or desk top computer. Needs to be familiar with both Excel and Word programs.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Use a line locator weighing approximately 25 lbs.

Use a short ladder and hammer to install numbering on poles.

Use a computer lap top and desk top.

Must know how to communicate by two way radio.

Must be able to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle in all types of on and off road conditions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk climb in and out of a vehicle use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. The incumbent will be required to frequently sit stoop kneel crouch and crawl talk and hear.

The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception ability to adjust focus and use binoculars.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job the employee will regularly work alone off-road and in outside weather conditions - summer and winter. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet-humid conditions fumes or airborne particles traffic toxic or caustic chemicals risk of electrical shock and vibration.

Will work in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. No contact with high voltage energized lines or equipment is required.

The noise level in the work environment will normally be moderate but will occasionally experience loud engine and equipment noises.
