Services will be performed in the Health Services Department.
Description of Duties
The contractor shall be responsible for but is not limited to:
- Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal ethical and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff
- Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure
- Administer medications as prescribed i.e. by mouth intravenous subcutaneously or intramuscularly
- Assist with the distribution of medications at the pill line
- Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy
- Perform skin testing
- Provide diagnostic therapeutic and preventive health care services for the inmate
- Take medical histories examine patients and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays
- Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens
- Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and AAAHC policy. Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians
- Ensure all sharps are secured accounted for stored and disposed of according to institutional and national policy
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Adhere to infection control policies and procedures
- Ability and skill to operate EKG
- Clinically manage injuries by splinting and immobilizing
- Attend to medical emergencies
- Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning instituting evaluating and revising program plans
- Assists in determining conditions resources and policies essential to the delivery of the health care services
- Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical emotional or mental problems
- Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick calls which may include securing health histories from the patient recording findings and providing clinical evaluations
- Provides a wide range of emergency services in the absence of the physician
- Perform duties as required but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/her educational preparation training experience and licensure laws
Education and Experience
- The Registered Nurse (contractor) must be certified to practice medicine in California. Copy must be provided.
- Verifying credentials (education current licensor/status competency continuing medical education.
- Must have at least three years of experience.
- The Contractor must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified
