The Montclair Cooperative School is Seeking a Temporary Full Time Substitute Teacher & Substitute Coordinator
Employment Period: Mid-February 2026 June 30 2026
Salary: $45000 annualized (prorated for the period of employment)
School: Private Independent School Grades Early Ages-8
We are seeking a reliable flexible and student-centered Full-Time Temporary Permanent Substitute Teacher & Substitute Coordinator to join our community during an employees maternity leave. This individual will serve as the primary substitute for faculty across Early Ages through Grade 8 while also coordinating daily substitute coverage. The ideal candidate has experience both as a substitute teacher and in managing or coordinating substitute schedules.
This is a full-time in person position
Key Responsibilities
Substitute Teaching
- Provide daily and long-term classroom coverage across Early AgesGrade 8.
- Support the teachers to ensure continuity of learning.
- Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.
- Support students academic social and emotional growth.
- Communicate any necessary updates concerns or feedback with teachers and school leadership.
Substitute Coordination - Coordinate and schedule daily substitute coverage for planned and unplanned faculty and staff absences.
- Maintain the substitute roster and ensure proper onboarding of subs.
- Participate in the substitute interview process with the schools Head of School and or Finance Manager
- Communicate with faculty regarding coverage needs and assignments.
- Track attendance and create daily coverage reports.
- Serve as the point of contact for substitutes and provide classroom support as needed.
- The sub coordinator is also responsible for staffing school events such as school dances and arranging childcare for community events such as conferences and parent meetings.
Schedule & Compensation
- Full-time on-campus position from mid-February through June 30 2026.
- Hours are from 8:30-4:30 daily
- Annual salary is $45000 prorated for the duration of employment.

Qualifications
- Prior experience as a substitute teacher; experience coordinating substitutes strongly preferred.
- Ability to teach and manage classrooms across a range of grade levels (Early AgesGrade 8).
- Strong communication organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable flexible and able to respond quickly to changing daily needs.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Bachelors degree required; education-related field preferred.
